A Study to Test Visualization as an Effective Classroom Method For Reducing Communication Apprehension of High School Students
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe causes of "stagefright," or "speech anxiety," or, to use a more recent term, "communication apprehension" have been the subject of numerous previous studies. Many treatment methods have been and continue to be developed. This study examined the effectiveness of visualization as a method for reducing communication apprehension of high school speech students in a classroom setting. Results indicated that combining visualization with normal classroom speech preparation and delivery was only slightly more effective in reducing communication apprehension than merely preparing and delivering speeches. Results also revealed a decrease in communication apprehension due simply to preparing and delivering speeches.
