Comparing Hunter's ITIP With Selected Elementary Vocal Music Methods in Southwest Missouri Aaa Schools

This study investigated how Madeline Hunter's Instructional Theory into Practice (ITIP) is being used in elementary vocal music classes in AAA schools in Southwest Missouri. It also investigated the usage of other lesson designs used alone, or in combination with the Madeline Hunter design. Data was obtained from a survey instrument developed by the researcher, who analyzed the questions. Nine research hypotheses directed the study. The study found that school districts expect elementary vocal music teachers to demonstrate Hunter's ITIP for their yearly evaluation, therefore, most teachers use at least part of the ITIP in their daily teaching. Other approaches most utilized by elementary vocal music teachers were the textbook-based approach and the song-based approach. The Orff approach was considered the most creative approach by elementary vocal music teachers.
