UNA REPUBBLICA SENZA DEMOCRAZIA. PER UNA STORIA TRANSNAZIONALE DEL MODELLO REPUBBLICANO CONSERVATORE TRA FRANCIA, SANTO DOMINGO E STATI UNITI ((1793 - 1804).
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe aim of this research project is to investigate and evaluate the transnational nature of the conservative republican model at the end of the 18th century. Moreover, this project examines how this conservative sentiment was conveyed between France, Santo Domingo and the United States through white Santo Domingo exiled settlers’ strategies and political organizations. Their adaptation to the profound changes of the colonial situation, accompanied by their lobbying action between the years 1794 and 1804, propose a new reading of the Atlantic reconfiguraion: originated by the reconquest of their plantations, soon the reflection would be articulated around the concepts of republic and modernity, republic and property, and, consequently, republic and hierarchization of the human beings according to supposed scientific bases.
