Implementation of lean manufacturing and SLP in an SME in the jewelry sector: case study

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Jewelry SMEs face delivery time challenges due to production delays that result in missed delivery dates for their clients. Therefore, the following field study aims to improve delivery time compliance in a jewelry SME. The main objective is to meet delivery dates by optimizing production processes and eliminating non value-added activities through the application of 5S, SMED, and SLP tools. The results obtained were a 43.2% difference in the 5S program, with a total reduction of 115.76 m with the SLP tool. Finally, a 30.32% reduction in set up times was achieved with the SMED tool. Therefore, the production process time was reduced by 117.01 minutes, contributing to an improvement in delivery times and achieving an 80% compliance level.
