Applications of Cobaloxime/Photoredox Co-operative Catalysis Toward Olefin Functionalization

Herein, the development and applications of cobaloxime/photoredox co-operative catalysis for olefin functionalization reactions is described. The primary focus has been to devise strategies that allow for the chemoselective cross-coupling of olefins with a variety of versatile functional groups toward the synthesis of synthetically valuable building-blocks, whilst simultaneously adhering to the principles of green chemistry. This has been achieved through the development of decarboxylative transformations and olefin activation processes that allow access to reactive intermediates via light-driven catalysis. When carried out in the presence of cobaloxime catalysts, a cobalt complex designed to mimic vitamin B12, olefin reinstallation is achievable through hydrogen evolution. These strategies offer new approaches toward olefin functionalization that improve upon the economic and environmental impacts that hinder traditional methods.
