The relationship between turnover and company performance: A study relating turnover, organizational subunit characteristics, performance measures, and attitudes

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Data from a large, national mortgage origination and servicing company was used to examine the issues related to turnover in 31 sales regions over an 18-month period, January 1996-July 1997. Demographic factors, performance indicators, and managerial effectiveness measures were studied to investigate their relation to various measures of turnover. A variety of turnover measures for 1996 and 1997 had strong negative relationships with 1996 and 1997 performance indicators. Additionally, voluntary and total turnover had a strong negative relationship with customer satisfaction. Results are discussed within the context of the literature on turnover and in terms of their implication for the organization in question.
