Organiseringen av antirasistisk verksamhet i Helsingfors svenska grundskolor

The Organization of Anti-racist Activities in Swedish Speaking Schools in Helsinki a bachelor’s thesis in political science that aims to investigate how anti-racist activity is being implemented in Swedish speaking schools of basic education in Helsinki. Many reports show that anti-racism has not been implemented in the Finnish education system and that school staff lacks tools for identifying and dismantling racism in their everyday life. Who takes the responsibility for distributing information about racism and how it can be prevented through anti-racist work in Finnish schools? Did the activities that have been offered to the school have any impact on the school practices and values? The method is a quantitative analysis of 13 responses from a survey that was sent out to the management team in every school. The survey consisted of questions about anti-racist activity that has been organized in the school during the school year 2021. The theoretical perspectives of this study are anti-racist discourse, non-performative anti-racism as well as theory of organization and the hybridization of organizations. Some of the most important results of this study are following; The activity that has been arranged in the schools of this study was not accessible for everybody. There was especially a lack of activity directed to students. The anti-racist events that were taking place were mostly organized in collaboration with external actors such as the City of Helsinki, experts from Helsinki University and non-governmental organizations. There was no impact on the school culture, procedures, and values as a result from the anti-racist activities that had been organized. This study suggests continued research within this field.
