Abstract
dc:descriptionThe aim of this doctorate is to analyze 51 surgical stabilizations of the spine and to refer the special peculiarities of our material and the technical modifications which were done. We refer 51 surgical stabilizations that have been done in two orthopaedic departments under the same direction. The men were 32 and the women 19. The 7 stabilizations concerned pathological instabilities of the spine and the 44 traumatic ones. The two pathological (infection - chordoma) and the 14 traumatic conditions concerned the cervical spine, while the 5 pathological ones (2 echinococcus, 2 spondylolisthesis, 1 chordoma) and the 30 traumatic ones concerned the dorsal and lumbar spine. Sixteen anterior (11 in the cervical and 5 in the dorsal and lumbar spine) and 34 posterior stabilizations (5 in the cervical and 29 in the dorsal and lumbar spine) were done. An anterior as well as a posterior stabilization was done in one patient. In the anterior stabilization of the cervical spine, plate-screws-graft was used six times; graft once, screws - graft twice, and screws-graft was used five times. In the dorsal and lumbar spine, in the anterior fusions, plate-screws-graft was used four times and graft twice while in the posterior stabilization plate-screws was used twice, wire-graft twice and Harrington's rods either alone or with wire or graft or petalectomy 26 times. The results are considered satisfactory without peculiarities and correspond to the international data. The type of stabilization chosen, depended on lesion and varied according to the case. Surgeon's experience is a critical factor. The pathological conditions which are referred constitute rare cases of stabilization in the injuries of the spine, the undertaking of the responsibility from the same medical team towards the patient at all stages of hospitalization, surgery, rehabilitation till social reinsertion in the same General Hospital, constitute the first Greek experience. The surgery shortens and facilitates the nursing and contribute in avoidance of complications from recumbency. Interconnection medicine in Greece can confront the problematic cases of diseases and injuries of the spine.
