Ταχεία ανίχνευση της εντεροτοξίνης του C. perfringens τύπου Α με την ανοσοενζυμική μέθοδο ELISA, σε κόπρανα ασθενών με συμπτώματα τροφικής δηλητηρίασης

C. perfringens type A is one of the most common agents for the food poisonings in human, worldwide. Its enterotoxin produced during the sporulation is particularly considered to be responsible for the development of the food poisoning, symptoms. The detection of its enterotoxin in feces of patients with diarrhoea is a diagnostic criterion of food poisonings caused by C. perfringens type A. Therefore the application of a sensitive and rapid method as the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for tracing of the enterotoxin in faecal samples was considered to be essential. In the present study an effort was made to detect the presence of enterotoxin of C. perfringens in stools. 280 faecal samples taken from patients with symptoms of food poisoning suspected to be caused by C. perfringens, were examined. All samples were tested qualitatively and quantitatively for the presence of C. perfringens and its enterotoxin. C. perfringens was recovered from 215 samples in 31 of which the microbes were >10⁶/gr of feces. Out of 26 of these 31 samples enterotoxin was detected by the sandwich ELISA method. The samples positive for enterotoxin were also examined by the reverse passive latex agglutination test. Only 22 of them were positive by this method. It is concluded that sandwich ELISA is a very sensitive method with reproductibility. Also it is rapid enough to be suggested for diagnostic purposes and epidemiological surveys.
