Abstract
dc:descriptionTHERE ARE SEVERAL MEASURES OF INFORMATION (M.O.I) WHICH ARE USED FOR VARIOUS PURPOSES AND WITHIN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS IN STATISTICS AND RELATED FIELDS. THE MOSTWELL KNOWN MEASURES ARE THOSE OF FISHER, KULLBACK-LEIBLER, RENYI AND SHANNON. THE M.O.I. ARE FOUNDED BY THE PROPERTIES WHICH THEY SATISFY. SOME OF THEM HAVE AXIOMATIC ORIGINS WHILE OTHERS ARE OF OPERATIONAL CHARACTER IN THE SENSE THAT THERE ARE IMPORTANT STATISTICAL RESULTS INVOLVING M.O.I. THE THESIS IS DEVOTED TO THE STUDY OF SOME STATISTICAL PROPERTIES FOR PARAMETRIC (FISHER'S TYPE) AND NON PARAMETRIC (KULLBACK-LEIBLER OR DIVERGENCE'S TYPE) M.O.I. APPLICATIONS OF THESE PROPERTIES IN PROBABILITY AND STATISTICS ARE ALSO DISCUSSED AND ILLUSTRATED. (SHORTENED)
