THE EFFECTS OF APPLICATION OF A MAGNETIC FIELD AND INJECTION OF A LIGHT FOREIGNGAS (HYDROGEN) IN THE HYPERSONIC LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER OF RAREFIED AIR OVER AFLAT PLATE ARE STUDIED. THE VARIABILITY OF THE MIXTURE PROPERTIES WITH TEMPERATURE AND HYDROGEN CONCENTRATION IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. SLIP BOUNDARY CONDITIONSARE PROVIDED TO SIMULATE DEPARTURE FROM THE CONTINUUM FLOW. A NUMERICAL MODEL IS DERIVED PREDICTING THE TEMPERATURE VELOCITY AND HYDROGEN CONCENTRATION PROFILES. IT IS SHOWN THAT THE PRESENCE OF A LIGHT GAS AND OF A MODERATE MAGNETIC FIELD CAN MARKEDLY REDUCE SKIN FRICTION AND HEAT TRANSFER AT THE PLATE.
