ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΣΥΣΤΗΜΑΤΩΝ ΕΛΕΓΧΟΥ ΣΤΡΟΦΩΝ ΚΙΝΗΤΗΡΩΝ ΣΥΝΕΧΟΥΣ ΡΕΥΜΑΤΟΣ ΜΕ ΤΗΝ ΑΡΧΗ ΤΟΥ ΒΡΟΧΟΥ ΣΥΓΧΡΟΝΙΣΜΟΥ ΦΑΣΗΣ (PLL)

THE PRESENT THESIS IS A THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE APPLICATION OF THE PLL PRINCIPLE TO DC MOTOR SPEED CONTROL; SEPARATELY EXCITED ANDSERIES MOTORS ARE CONSIDERED. THESE SYSTEMS WHICH WILL BE REFERRED TO AS PLRS(PHASE LOCKED REGULATION SYSTEM) FIRSTLY APPEARED IN LATE 1960S BUT HITHERTO THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SATISFACTORY THEORETICAL ANALYSIS RESULTING THUS IN A GAPBETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE. IN THIS THESIS PLRS WITH TRIANGULAR AND PHASE- FREQUENCY COMPARATOR HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED. FOR THE TRIANGULAR PHASE COMPARATOR A NEW, SIMPLE, MORE EFFICIENT MODEL IS PROPOSED HERE. THIS HAS BEEN EMPLOYEDIN THE INVESTIGATION OF THE CAPTURE PHENOMENON. EXPERIMENT HAS SHOWN THAT CAPTURE IS ATTAINED MAINLY THROUGH THE LOCK-IN PROCESS. THE DELAY INTRODUCED BY THE MOTOR PREVENTS THE PULL-IN PROCESS FROM BEING EFFECTIVE. BASICALLY THE LOCK-IN PHENOMENON IS ISOLATED IN A PLRS. BY MEANS OF THE PROPOSED MODEL A CLOSEDEXPRESSION FOR THE ESTIMATION OF THE LOCK-IN RANGE HAS BEEN DERIVED WHICH EXPLAINS THE PLRS OPERATION EXCELLENTLY AND LEADS TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE ENCODER RESOLUTION SHOULD BE SMALL. MOREOVER A THEORETICAL EXPLANATION IS GIVEN REGARDING THE OBSERVED IMPROVEMENT IN THE PLL WITH DIGITAL PHASE COMPARATOR OPERATION WHEN REFERENCE SIGNAL SUBHARMONICS ARE FED INTO THE COMPARATOR. A GENERAL CONCLUSION IS THAT PLRS WITH TRIANGULAR PHASE COMPARATOR HAS A SMALL PRACTICAL STABILITY REGION CONSEQUENTLY THE OPERATION AT LOW SPEEDS IS RATHER IMPOSSIBLE. A NEW NONLINEAR MODEL IS PROPOSED FOR THE PHASE FREQUENCY-COMPARATOR BY MEANS OF WHICH ASYMPTOTIC STABILITY CRITERIA HAVE BEEN DERIVED. THE STABILITY CRITERIA ARE A USEFUL GUIDE TO PLRS DESIGN AND SHOW THAT THE ENCODER RESOLUTION CAN BE SMALL. THIS RESULTS IN A LOW COST PLRS. THE PLRS WITH TRIANGULAR PHASE COMPARATOR AND SERIES MOTOR SEEMS TO PRESENT MORE ADVANTAGES THAN THAT WITH SEPARATELY EXCITED MOTOR. THE FIRST ONE IS FASTER, IT HAS LARGER CAPTURE RANGE AND IT IS CHEAPER THAN THE SECOND ONE. SIMILAR CONCLUSIONS ARE TRUE FOR PLRSWITH PHASE-FREQUENCY COMPARATOR. A GENERAL CONCLUSION IS THAT SERIES MOTORS CAN BE EMPLOYED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF HIGH ACCURACY SPEED REGULATOR SYSTEMS WITH THE ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES OF HIGH STARTING TORQUE, LOW COST AND SMALL VOLUME.
