Protein Phosphatase 1 Alpha Modulates L Polymerase Phosphorylation and Regulates Rift Valley Fever Virus Replication

Abstract

Members of the Bunyaviridae family are amongst the most widespread viruses in the world. Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), family Bunyaviridae, is a mosquito-borne phlebovirus capable of causing cyclic Rift Valley fever epidemics devastating both livestock and human populations throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Despite being recognized as an emerging threat, relatively little is known about the virulence mechanisms of RVFV, or the host factors involved in viral pathogenesis. Currently there are no FDA licensed vaccines or therapeutics to treat RVF. The Ser/Thr cellular kinase Protein Phosphatase 1 (PP1) is an attractive target for viral manipulation as it is involved in numerous host signaling events.
