Unaccompanied Horn Repertoire by Underrepresented Composers

Works for unaccompanied horn written by straight, white, cisgender male composers are often more accessible than those written by underrepresented composers, information about these works is more readily available than those composed by underrepresented composers. Despite this, there is a plethora of works written by underrepresented composers for unaccompanied horn that are beneficial to learn and program. This treatise provides detailed information about selected repertoire for unaccompanied horn composed by women, black, brown, indigenous, Asian (BBIA), and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, plus (LGBTQ+) composers. Reference note cards provide information a performer would need to consider when searching for repertoire to program, such as the difficulty of the work, what equipment is needed, the setting of the work, and the background of the composer. Three pieces of varying difficulty from those provided in this treatise are further explored through interviews with the composers and a structural analysis.
