An Empirical Examination of the Influence of Gender, Age, Training, Openness, and Social Norms on Attitudes Toward and Willingness to Use Telepsychology among Graduate Students

This paper aimed to examine which factors influence psychologist-in-trainings to use telepsychology in future clinical practice. The primary goal of this paper was to explore the relationships between openness, direct experience, social norms, attitudes, and willingness to use telepsychology among psychologists-in-training. The present study found that openness, social norms, and direct experience positively impact willingness. Furthermore, attitudes mediate social norms and direct experience. Psychologists-in-training who had direct experience indicated a greater willingness to use telepsychology. However, didactic training decreased psychologists-in-training's willingness to use telepsychology in future clinical practice. Implications and limitations are discussed.
