Primary Teachers' Perceptions on their Performance in Relation to Class Size: Do They Feel They are Meeting the Academic Needs of Their Students?

<p>Teachers' perceptions of professional success can be affected by factors such as class size. Large class size may have negative effects on teachers' perceptions of their own performance. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of class size on teachers' perceptions of how they are meeting their students' academic needs. The literature reveals the benefits of smaller class size. Parents and teachers are in support of programs that seek to reduce class size because of the perceived benefits such programs have on students. This is a qualitative study in which teachers are selected and interviewed using a series of questions related to this topic. Included in the sample are primary teachers who have taught both small classes and large classes.</p>
