Review of Literature on Language Programs for English Language Learners and Implications for Program Development
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>The work of researchers, theorists and practitioners suggests that, for more than thirty years, California has been facing a challenge in educating English Language Learners. Studies show that the current practices are not giving the appropriate tools for ELL students to become language proficient at a comparable level of native English speakers. This project analyzes different practices of programs in conjunction with ESL Standards, performance test results, and brings awareness to educators, when 40% of our public school students are English Learners, and no consensus has been born for a problem whose solution is long overdue. In addition, and as a conclusion, this study offers suggestions for English language development across the curriculum during the elementary years.</p>
