Abstract
dc:description.abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a cooperative physical education model compared with a competitive physical education model on 4th and 5th grade students’ self-esteem. Students participate in two weeks of competitive team sports. Students also participated in two weeks of cooperative skill-building activities. Students completed surveys in which self-esteem, cooperation, competition, and carry over to non-physical education activities were measured. Results indicated that cooperative physical education activities improved self-esteem, cooperation and carry over. Students’ desire to participate in competitive activities declined.
