Tetracycline in Tumor

The attraction of the tetracycline antibiotic for any rapidly growing tissue has been repeatedly observed. This phenomenon is shown by a yellow golden fluorescence of the tissue when placed under an ultraviolet light. The cause of this phenomenon is not known, but is thought to be an interrelationship of the enzymes systems within the tissue and its combination with the tetracycline. All variants of tetracycline seem to offer this affinity for any rapidly growing tissue. The terramycin, however, has the greatest fluorescence intensity under the ultraviolet light and was the tetracycline used in this study.
