Digital representation of gender equality: Analyzing the European Commission's social media strategy for women’s empowerment policies

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This research examines the European Commission's social media strategy for promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. By analyzing key campaigns and digital content, the study evaluates the effectiveness of the Commission's communications in raising awareness, engaging audiences, and influencing public perception. The research employs content analysis, sentiment evaluation, and comparative case studies to assess social media metrics and public interaction with posts on platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The findings highlight the Commission's strategic use of digital tools to foster dialogue and mobilize support for gender equality initiatives. Despite successes in visibility and advocacy, challenges such as misinformation and the digital divide persist, necessitating adaptive strategies. This study could contribute to understanding how social media can amplify institutional efforts to promote equity and inspire systemic change. Future research is recommended to explore comparative analyses with similar organizations and evaluate the tangible impact of these strategies on societal outcomes.
