The role of signal transducer and activator of transcription-3 (STAT-3) in ischaemic and pharmacological preconditioning
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIschemic preconditioning is a protective mechanism whereby repetitive transient ischaemia confer protection against the subsequent prolonged lethal ischaemia that is observed during myocardial infarction. This protective phenomenon that lessens myocardial infarction can be mimicked by the cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) but the signalling pathways involved still remain unclear.
