A importância do bilinguismo no contexto escolar dos alunos surdos

This paper has as a main objective to analyze the importance of the Bilingualism in the school context of deaf students, understanding the influence of this new conception in the educational process. The research, of qualitative nature, also had as an objective to undertand the different educational approaches to the deaf students as well to identify the main problems faced by deaf students and problematizing the importance of the interpreter to the schooling of the deaf student. As research tools were used the observation and the application of a questionnaire composed by subjective and objective questions which gave us subsidies to understand how the Bilingualism occurs in the classroom. It took part of this research: teachers, interpreters and the pedagogue responsible for the support room (AEE), of the School Durmeval Trigueiro Mendes, in the city of João Pessoa. After the analysis of the collected data, it was possible to observe that the subjects of this research do not possess a consensual definition about Bilingualism. Furthermore, it was also confirmed that exists the necessity to promote the continuous education in order to the teacher be fully able to practice an effective bilingual education. According to the results, we realize that an educational proposal based on a bilingual perspective provides to the deaf student a quality education, in order to this methodology considers the sign language as the first language, that means, their mother tongue.
