CARCINOMA CORTICAL DA ADRENAL NÃO FUNCIONAL COM INVASÃO DA VEIA CAVA CAUDAL EM CÃO

Among the domestic animals, canines and felines stand out as companion animals, for that reason the care with them has been growing, as well as the numerous diagnostic methods used to identify various diseases. Among the conditions observed in these species, we highlight the neoplasms, which the benign adenoma and malign carcinoma are the most found between adrenal gland tumors. The present work aims to describe the case of a dog diagnosed with carcinoma in the cortex of the adrenal gland with invasion of caudal vena cava. A male dog with 15 kg, mixed breed was submitted to complementary tests, such as hemogram, serum biochemistry and ultrasonography. The only alteration found on the hemogram was moderate thrombocytopenia and the leukogram revealed relative and absolute lymphocytosis. Serum biochemistry showed increase in the Total Plasma Proteins, Alkaline Phosphatase, Urea and Creatinine levels. Ultrasonography showed alterations in liver with increased caliber of intrahepatic and portal vascular architecture. During the treatment, the animal died and was sent to the Veterinary Pathology Laboratory for necropsy examination, which detected the presence of a periadrenal mass invading the caudal vena cava. The affected adrenal gland was subjected to the histopathologic examination and was confirmed the diagnosis of adrenocortical carcinoma. It is concluded that adrenocortical carcinoma is a rare neoplasm in dogs, however, it is believed that even when detected, they are not properly notified, which makes it necessary the adoption of diagnostic measures in the hospital routine, such as histopathological analysis, an indispensable complementary test for the conclusion of the diagnosis.
