O serviço de referência na Biblioteca Pública Augusto dos Anjos: entre carências e desejos

In an information unit, the Reference Service constitutes in one of the most important to be offered to users and must be exercised promptly and with quality. This research aims to investigate the Reference Service in Augusto dos Anjos’ Public Library, located in downtown of João Pessoa/PB city. The study sample consists of 40 (forty) members who attend the library. As data collection instruments, it was used the questionnaire, interviews and systematic observation. The research presents an exploratory descriptive in a quantitative and qualitative approach. After analyzing the data, where it discovered the difficulties and the reality of the library are presented the results and suggestions for improvement measures for the Reference Service in that library. It follows that the reference service in the Augusto dos Anjos’ Public Library lies lagged and without infrastructure and that, while the librarian craves to provide services with more quality, the lack of technological tools and especially staff does not allow it.
