Participação política e construção da cidadania ativa: estudo exploratório do orçamento participativo em João Pessoa-PB

This study aimed to analyze how political participation exercised by citizens, specifically the directors , the Participatory Budget in the city of João Pessoa, has encouraged them to participate in other public spaces , thus contributing to the exercise of active citizenship, that is , that in which the citizen , as well as being included in the decision making process on issues that relate to their needs , also uses participation as an instrument of creation and transformation of reality in which he lives . So this is an exploratory study based on literature review and field research. Due to the creation of public spaces, enabling a more democratic and participatory governance, issues such as political participation and citizenship are, in most cases , at the center of discussions involving the search for an increasingly participatory democracy. Accordingly, the inclusion of participatory spaces in the Brazilian public management requires special attention. After all, these spaces are the result of a democratization process of civil society, and the struggle of people for their rights. Participatory budgeting is a case study of the outcome of these struggles, the possibility of direct contact and dialogue with the government, as research has brought about positive results of political participation and education. By providing citizen participation in the decision- making process, allows the exercise of active citizenship, to consider their progress in the country and because it is a very important tool for public management is of considerable importance to this analysis about gains in participation and development of active citizenship by participating citizens of PB in the city of João Pessoa.
