Mulheres em situação de violência e as políticas sociassistenciais no Estado da Paraíba

This monograph focus on public policies to support and care for women victims of violence in the state of Paraíba, with special attention to the services available in the city of João Pessoa / PB. Based on the survey of actions taken by government agencies and civil society, we will analyze (the) protective measures available to women victims of violence in João Pessoa and what are the services offered to them. The importance of the issue was set up in data collection and preliminary information about the subject, showing the seriousness and relevance of the problem to the field of public policies, especially in João Pessoa and in the state of Paraíba, where the indicators are alarming with regard to violence against women (Garcia, 2013; WAISELFISZ, 2012). In studies on femicide, for example, wich the violence results in the victim's death, ultimate expression of violence against women, Paraiba reached the eighth position in the national ranking, with 6.99 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the fourth largest rate among the northeastern states (Garcia, 2013). It is, therefore, a clear social problem, with multiple determinations, requiring public policies and active protective actions to support victims of violence. In this study, descriptive and exploratory, we intend to present the general outlines of the problem, as well as process of building social assistance policy aimed to women victims of violence, its structure and services available in the State of Paraíba, emphasizing the city of João Pessoa/ PB.
