Violação à liberdade religiosa no Irã durante o governo Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: uma análise da perseguição

The present work seeks to understand the interrelationship between religion and International Relations (IR), having as a case study the religious persecution of the religions Bahá'í Faith Christianity under the government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The former president belonged to the conservative wing of the country and succeeded a reformist president. In the face of constant reports from the international media and institutes during his government on human rights violations, the paper aims to investigate the restrictions imposed on these two religious minorities in order to understand what elements allow these violations of rights to intensify and perpetuate over the decades. To that end, international reports, country laws, articles and books have been used, leading to an understanding of the governmental structure, national laws that allow them to perpetuate, so that we can observe the response of the international community on this issue. In particular, it was possible to observe that what led to the perpetuation and intensification of the violations of religious rights was the union between the Iranian state and the dominant religion in the search for control and maintenance of the status quo through the permissive legal framework, the centralization of control in the Iranian Supreme Leader and the social support to such practices.
