A atuação dos doadores emergentes no âmbito da cooperação internacional: uma análise do caso brasileiro no Programa Mundial de Alimentos

Brazilian donations to the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations (UN) leveraged the past decade. In addition to the contributive increase, it was verified during this period the deepening of relations between Brazil and that organ of the UN System, which resulted, among other things, in the possibility that Brazilian programmes aimed at promoting food security and nutrition were replicated internationally. All this shift happened after approval by the WFP Executive Board in 2004 of the document New Partnerships to Meet Rising Needs: Expanding the WFP donor base (NPMRN). This document consolidated a manifest debate in the WFP since the late nineties, on the need to expand the organ donor base from the engagement of emerging donors. Since Brazil is one of the emerging donors that reached a more active participation in the WFP after NPMRN, this study aimed to investigate whether and how the Brazilian performance in the discussion period on the expansion of the donor base and involvement of emerging donors influenced on consolidation of the institutional changes ocurred in the WFP.
