O impacto da política de ajuda alimentar internacional dos Estados Unidos na cooperação multilateral do Programa Mundial de Alimentos

The World Food Programme (WFP) was created especially for two main reasons: the growing involvement of state actors in the international food aid regime; and the inability of USA to continue shouldering alone, the international food aid (main tool to combat the hunger in the world). The multilateralism, therefore, has proved the ideal way to avoid disadvantageous results. For the USA, the WFP has been an addition to their bilateral food aid programs, strongly linked to internal actor’s interests. However, to the extent that the program encompassed a greater participation of developing countries and confronted the interests of USA bilateral aid, the interest of USA in the institution began to fade. The fall of the US participation in the PMA, its main actor and contributor, has contributed to a decline of the institution's resources, to a inefficiency in combating hunger in the world and promote the development and, consequently, to a weakening of the multilateral cooperation. Through literature review, WFP's data and structure analysis and the USA food aid policy, the work explores the impact of the USA food aid policy in WFP's multilateral cooperation.
