So, through a research grounded in the fundamentals of authors such as Piaget and Vygotsky, and following the school reality studied, we search to characterize the contribution of using recreational resources in early childhood education. The research sample included a class of Child IV, consisting of 25 children, all of them with five years old. In addition, counted on the participation of a teacher and a room assistant. The qualitative study used data collection technique of participant observation and a logbook as a tool to record the observed data. The empirical research was conducted in a childhood education institution for one week (Monday to Friday), between 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The study demonstrated the importance of play for cognitive, motor and social development of child, which was evidenced by the literature and the results at the end of the observation. Based on the research and observations, it was noticed that the teacher of the class observed uses recreational activities in different parts of your routine consciously, providing learning that contribute to the overall development of children. Therefore, it is concluded that the play is also a way to provide learning, and it is essential that the recreational activities do not appear in the school routine only when intended for recreation.
