Comparação da midríase medicamentosa obtida em pacientes diabéticos tipo 2 sem neuropatia e não-diabéticos
Abstract
dc:description.abstractPurpose: Evaluate and compare obtained mydriasis with phenylephrine 10% associated with tropicamide 1%, in type 2 diabetics and non-diabetic patients. Methods: A total of 60 patients (120 eyes) scheduled for fundoscopy were dilated with phenylephrine 10% and tropicamide 1% (group 0, n=30 type 2 diabetic patients, 60 eyes and group 1, n=30 non-diabetic patients, 60 eyes). Only one drop per eye of each drug was administered. In both groups, pupil diameter was measured after 40 minutes of eyedrops instillation. Results: Mean age for the diabetic group was 62.27 years (SD = 8.61 years) and for the non-diabetic group was 56.57 years (SD = 17.28 years). There was no significant difference between both groups. (p = 0.18). Considering right eyes, mean pupil diameter was 8.47 mm in the diabetic group (SD = 0.86 mm) and 8.77 mm (SD = 0.86 mm) in the non-diabetic group. There was no significant difference between both groups (p = 0.15). Considering left eyes, mean pupil diameter was 8.53 mm in the diabetic group (SD = 0.94 mm) and 8.77 mm (SD = 0.86 mm) in the non-diabetic group. There was no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.32). Conclusion: When the combination of phenylephrine 10% and tropicamide 1% is used, type 2 diabetic patients can achieve mydriasis as satisfactory as non-diabetic patients, allowing adequate fundus examination and/or retinopathy treatment.
