Por uma pedagogia buibere: atuação política e diplomática das mulheres de Timor-Leste

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This research has two main objectives. The first one is to record, in academic language, stories known to many people in East Timor - and to those interested in the country's politics - but which are often made invisible and forgotten in official records. The second objective is to carry out a case study that analyzes women's political activity, understanding it as complex, intentional, articulated and collective. From a decolonial and feminist theoretical perspective, I analyze and record what a group of women did for the Timorese cause and, from a sociological perspective, I expose this action based on elements that characterize decolonial and feminist pedagogies, understanding these pedagogies as a struggle movement and constant and collective learning towards a common political objective. This doctoral thesis initially addresses the political and intellectual formation of a group of women who played a fundamental role during the years of struggle for East Timor´s independence. Based on this education, I present how these women acted in different areas - educational, cultural, party-political and diplomatic - mobilizing networks, knowledge and multiplying learning around the ideals of national liberation, which they propagated as a right of Timorese people, especially of Timorese women. As a result of the research, I present this process, in dialogue with a central concept in the political history of East Timor, calling it “Buibere pedagogy”, which is a form of political engagement that is linked to constant learning. This praxis between learning and political struggle multiplied the knowledge acquired by them through debates, campaigns, confrontations, collective construction and survival strategies and political and diplomatic mobilization that these women carried out over the 24 years of struggle for Timor-Leste's independence. Furthermore, the recording of these forms of political action contributes to the valorization of women's life stories and the inclusion of other dimensions of official national history, intentionally acting against the erasure and invisibility of women's place in politics.
