Doze horas restantes: neotragédia grega e autoficção no hip hop de Atheatos

Giannis Sakellariou, also known as Atheatos, is a former Greek basketball player and rapper who, in 2016, released the album Twelve Hours Left. The album, characterized as a concept album, as it uses recurring linguistic and musical elements that give it unity as a whole, focuses on the story of its protagonist, a man named Giannis, who lives in Greece during the economic crisis that hit the country between 2014 and 2016. This paper aims to analyze the album in terms of its own construction and its connections with Greek tragedy, by studying the basic elements of classical Greek drama and its conceptions of tragedy and the tragic hero (Fainlight and Littman, 2009), along with the proposal of a reading of the protagonist as an exercise in autofiction as a survival narrative, along the lines of Eneida Maria de Souza (2017). Six selected songs will be analyzed more closely: "Prologue", "A society, a story", "My retrospective", "A good review", "Mysterious Life", and "Epilogue". This monograph also presents an overview of the Greek economic, social, political and cultural situation, contextualized with the arrival of Hip Hop in Europe and Greece. Finally, it is intended to contribute to academic studies of hip hop in conjunction with themes of Greek tragedy, autofiction and points of intersection that may exist between these areas.
