Da pesca e outras artes: memórias de Antônio de Gastão

This work intends to discuss popular art, by analysing an specific case: Antônio de Gastão, an artist from Cabo Frio It tries to catch what sense does art mean to him, what his art contains and expresses. By devellopment, it broaches another question: popular art as a conscient working-out process, by establishing a dialogue with authors who, placing popular expressions in opposition to erudite manifestations, consider only the last ones as a result of an intentional creative act. On the contrary, we find out that art, for Antônio de Gastão, is part of a whole, indivisible: a project consciently built by the artist, whose starting-point seems tobe the tensions caused by social changes that disconnect and connect again his social context.
