Aplicação de métodos experimentais alternativos para avaliação da retardância à chama em madeiras
Abstract
dc:description.abstractEvaluates experimentally the flame retardancy of woods by means of test methods not adopted by the current Brazilian flammability classification of materials. So, a phosphorus-based flame retardant was applied on the surface of samples of E. dunnii, P. elliottii and MDF. The evaluation of flammability contemplated the glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) and the glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT) tests, following the procedures recommended in IEC 60695-2-10, IEC 60695-2 -12 and IEC 60695-2-13, and the mass loss cone calorimeter (MLCC) test, in accordance with ASTM E2102-08. The results demonstrated that the surface application of the flame retardant did not significantly reduce the peak of heat release rate and the total heat released from the tested materials, counter to the impregnation treatment performed in other studies. In addition, the untreated MDF was classified as a fire retardant material according to Building Standard Law (BSL) of Japan, while the treated MDF did not meet the requirements of the aforementioned standard. However, the GWIT increased 75 ° C, 125 ° C and 150 ° C in E. dunnii, P. elliottii and MDF, respectively.
