O controle ambiental para a preservação de acervos com suporte em papel na concepção dos edifícios de arquivos de bibliotecas em clima tropical úmido

Preserving the movable cultural property of the past and the present for the future is the task of archives, libraries and museums. The protection of objects, especially organic, relies above all, on the environment in which they are stored and displayed. Optimal environments for preservation can be achieved by the maintenance of specific levels of temperature, relative humidity, ando also by the control of light and atmospheric pollutants. In tropical humid climate this kind of environmental control often requires mechanical equipments and air-conditioning, which envolves high instalation and running costs. This work brings together paper conservation and architecture, and tries to relate environmental control with a re-examination of the concepts of bioclimatic building design. Futhermore, it supplies elements that must be considered in the design conception to guarantee the correct climatic performance of the libraries and archives buildings.
