Análise do adensamento da fundação da barragem de Juturnaíba

Several aspects of Terzaghi’s unidimensional consolidation theory including its restrictions and the possible uses in the real consolidation of soils are discussed. In this thesis, some aspects of the extension of this theory are presented as well as the numerical method of finite differences, the mathematical tool used in this thesis. The program CONMULTM (conceived by the L.C.P.C. - Paris), based on the finite differences method for the solution of unidimensional consolidation problems is described. Researches carried out by the L.C.P.C. (Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées - Paris) itself, the University of Laval (Quebec), S.G.I. (Swedish Geotechnical Institute) and COPPE/UFRJ are also presented. The geotechnical description and characterization of Juturnaíba’s soft organic clay deposit is subsequently presented. Results of pore pressure and settlements computed by CONMULTM, are compared with the respective instrumentation data. Analyses of the variation of geotechnical parameters during the consolidation process are also presented, as made able by the conception of the program which also allows consideration of creep effects.
