Estudos pseudo-tridimensionais das tensões em galerias no interior de barragens de terra utilizando o método dos elementos finitos

This dissertation describes a study on stress distribution around buried concrete structures under earth dams. The study consisted of a pseudo-tridimensional analysis, using a two-dimension finite element program, and taking advantage of the plane strain conditions through the dam and buried structure axis. Two structures were analysed, around which total pressure cells had been installed. The pseudo-tridimensional analysis results were compared with the values provided by the instrumentation. Additional studies were carried out to determine the influence on the longitudinal normal stress distribution, of the following parameters: natural groung geometry, flexibility of the structure, and relation between the foundation and embankment Young’s modulli. The disturbance in the stress field caused by the presence of the rigid structure was also evaluated.
