The study consisted of a pseudo-tridimensional analysis, using a two-dimension finite element program, and taking advantage of the plane strain conditions through the dam and buried structure axis. Two structures were analysed, around which total pressure cells had been installed. The pseudo-tridimensional analysis results were compared with the values provided by the instrumentation. Additional studies were carried out to determine the influence on the longitudinal normal stress distribution, of the following parameters: natural groung geometry, flexibility of the structure, and relation between the foundation and embankment Young’s modulli.
