A cidade contemporânea e as novas tecnologias segundo Paul Virilio, Manuel Castells e François Ascher

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Cities are passing through many transformations as the use and the fast development of new technologies grow together. Many so thought fundamental conceptions for the ubanistic field have been called in question to the point of losing the importance they had before. The íncidence and the effects of these transformations, which dismantle some of the traditional urban institutions, are now under critical analysis by many thinkers. Among them, Paul Virilio, Manuel Castells and François Ascher are the most renowned. Their views often agree, often disagree and often complement each other - and this results in an important contribution to the understanding of the contemporary city and urbanism. The present work intends to identify the concepts and themes on which are based the different interpretations of these authors, aiming to contribute to a conception of the contemporary city.
