Intrusão salina em aquíferos costeiros: uma análise pelo Método de Elementos de Contorno
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe need of great quantity of water of good quality has led to a considerable increase in the volume of pumped groundwater. An important groundwater problem is salt water intrusion that may be defined as the landward movement of seawater interface. Intrusion can result from excessive pumping in coastal aquifers and causes increase in salinity of groundwater at a given location. The boundary element method is formulated for and applied to problems concerning a moving interface between fresh water and salt water in porous media. The model is applied to three cases: segregation by gravity action, intrusion by reduction of recharge flow and intrusion into a sink. The results obtained by the model are in good agreement with analytical and experimental solutions.
