The dynamic analysis of bridges is presented, being the bridge idealized as an elastic beam under the action of moving constant forces. Special emphasis is given to the dynamic behavior of cantilever bridges. The structure is discretized in finite elements and the analysis is conducted by means of the modal superposition method. The element which is used takes into account the effects of rotary inertia and shear deformation. A FORTRAN program for the Burroughs B6700 computer is developed. Some example of existing highway and railway bridges are studied. The results are compared with known analytical and numerical solutions and the efficiency of the program is analysed.
