Der Umgang mit sensiblen Objekten kolonialer Kontexte in der DDR 1973-1985
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis examines the ways in which the GDR (German Democratic Republic) positioned itself in the debate regarding restitutions of sensitive objects, coming from imperial and colonial contexts. After summarizing the institutional conditions, (that are the Ministry of Culture (MfK), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MfAA)) as well as the general opinions and dealing with colonial history in Marxism-Leninism and in the GDR and the connections to cultural foreign policy of the GDR, a historical discourse analysis of archive material is presented. It can be shown that there was a specific way of dealing with the restitution requests as well as the international debate, largely substantiated by the creation of a narrative that seemingly dissolved the tension between normative frame and actual political action.
