A historical survey of the drama program at Baylor University, 1941-1963.

This thesis is a historical survey of the program in Drama at Baylor University, Waco, Texas, from 1941 to 1963. The text is divided into three chapters. Chapter I, The Development of the Faculty and the Physical Plant, contains biographical data on each faculty member as well as descriptions and illustrations of how the physical plant developed. Chapter II, The Development of the Curriculum and Degree Program, traces the growth of the courses offered as part of the Speech Department until 1947 when the Department of Drama was formed; the degree program as it developed between 1947 and 1963; and the graduate extension program from 1960 to 1963 at the Dallas Theatre Centre. Chapter III, The Production Program, lists the major productions from 1941 until 1963 and describes several productions that received nationwide recognition. Although background information covering 1925 to 1941 is included at the beginning of each chapter, the primary years covered are from the opening of Baylor's Studio Theatre in 1941 until the close of the 1962-1963 school year when the faculty resigned, and Drama became a division of the Department of Oral Communication.
