Nurse Image, Satisfaction of Major effect on Nursing Professionalism of Male Students in Nursing
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe purpose of this study was to examine the effects on nurse image and satisfaction with the major on nursing professionalism of the male students in nursing. The research design was a descriptive study with a structured questionnaire, a sample of 143 male students in nursing in Korea participated in the study. Data were collected from May, 2010 to September, 2010 using instrument for the nurse image, the satisfaction of major and the nursing professionalism. The linear regression analyzed with the stepwise approach were used to determine the effects of nurse image and satisfaction of major on the nursing professionalism of male students in nursing. The mean scores of nurse image and satisfaction of major were respectively 3.75±0.43 and 3.77±0.54. The mean score of nursing professionalism was 3.63±0.45. The social participation, the aptitude, the general satisfaction, the role were significant predictors, explainning for 74.4% of the variance in nursing professionalism. In conclusion, nursing professionalism is developed from nursing students based on the nurse image and satisfaction of major when they are in college. To level up the nursing professionalism of nursing students, nursing education system should concern about social image of nurses and apply supportive care to male nursing students.
