Reliefanalyse an Schwemmfächern und Fußflächen im Südwesten der USA

Abstract

dc:description

In geomorphology different models were developed for the interpretation and genesis of alluvial fans and pediments. So far state of the art geomorphologic-geological methods (e.g. analysis of sedimentological parameters) were used. Now the availability of high resolution digital data provides an opportunity to analyze alluvial fans and pediments on a continental scale. With the assistance of satellite images and digital elevation models the different controlling factors (tectonic – climatic – glaciofluvial) of alluvial fan and pediment genesis are determined exemplary in the semiarid west of the USA. These factors have an impact on the superior hydrography of the landscape in different scales and periods. The diagnosis of recent and former landforms and processes allows an interpretation of the landscape genesis and past climatic parameters. The remote sensing method was supported by comparative field studies. Finally a model of a pleistocene periglacial layer verified a source of sediment supply for the evolution of alluvial fans.
