Konzept zur Optimierung des PMD-Einsatzes in der Automobilindustrie

Abstract

dc:description

Today, Product Data Management (PDM) is one of the basic tools within the automotive industry. PDM supports many key processes in the vehicle development und provides downstream areas (e.g. production and after sales) with information and data needed to built up and maintain cars (keywords: PDM as “data backbone” or “data hub”). PDM also supports the companies of the automotive industry in reducing development costs and development time, in increasing the data quality along the vehicle building process and in creating a total information transparency for all groups taking part in developing, building and maintaining a vehicle. Modern PDM systems are robust, reliable and fast processing. In the daily work, though, PDM problems appear, e.g. because of the variety of legacy systems and processes within the PDM environment or the high complexity of modern PDM systems. Many of these mentioned problems are not totally new; in fact, they appear again and again in various constellations. The concept described in this dissertation provides possibilities to find solutions for these PDM problems on a methodical, standardized basis. The basic hypothesis of the concept is that the PDM environment is built up by a number of parameters which interact with each other via “relationships”. Problems within these relationships have influence on the whole PDM environment; “overall PDM problems” appear. In the concept it is assumed that such an overall PDM problem can be divided in its parts: in parameters, in relationships, in relationship problems. If these relationship problems are solved on a methodical-systematical basis – e.g. by using methods described within the VDI guideline 2221 or the theories provided by Pahl/Beitz and Ehrlenspiel/Lindemann – the overall PDM problem can be solved by putting together the solutions for the relationship problems to one consistent PDM problem solution recommendation. On top to the solution recommendation(s) for the overall PDM problem the user of the concept gets a full scale analysis of his PDM environment which can be used for the further optimization of both the PDM systems and processes. Periodically appearing PDM problems can be solved by using the possibility to define “PDM problem templates”; this possibility is also part of the concept. To get these templates, information about already solved PDM problems has to be stored in a data base (“knowledge base”). Part of the data can be, for example, information about already identified PDM parameters, their relationships, possible problems of these relationships and solutions therefore. The search functionality provided within the data base makes it easy to look for already identified PDM problems and the related solutions.
