Entwicklung und Erprobung eines porösen TiO 2-Glas-Verbundes als Knochenersatz

Abstract

dc:description

Prior application of a porous TiO2/glass composite as bone graft processing technology, biocompatibility and biofunctionality need to be evaluated. After preparing the moulding mass by coating of the pore-donating perlite glass granules ceramic shaping is performed by cold pressing. Extrusion and cold isostatic pressing were evaluated and discarded. Density gradients in axial and radial direction remain in the biphasic structure due to pressing and sintering. More than 60% total porosity are being characterised mainly by image analysis. Depending on size and density a stiffness varying around 4 GPa is measured with 3 techniques. 4 bending test results are iterated to mean values of sigma 0V = 13 MPa and m approximately 17. Discussed compressive strength values are influenced by edge effects. Biocompatibility to living tissue is proven with an integrated evaluation chain. A concept to link interface-active proteins has been applied successfully. In its biofunction as implant in the cervical spine of sheep the ceramic composite and bone cement achieve the same stiffening. However, the fracture of two from ten implants and abrasive wear in vivo proof the yet too poor mechanical strength level.
