Lyginamoji feministinių naratyvų muzikoje JAV ir Švedijoje analizė /

Abstract

dc:description

This thesis explores the feminist narratives present in the music of female artists from Sweden and the United States. It employs two feminist theories, neoliberal feminism and postmodern feminism, to analyze and compare the messages conveyed by musicians in these two countries. Through lyrical and visual analyses, the study seeks to identify key feminist themes and vocabulary utilized by artists. It also evaluates the socio-economic and gender equality contexts of both nations. The central research question investigates the differences in feminist messages expressed by Swedish and US female musicians. Hypotheses suggest a potential disparity in the prevalence of feminist ideas between the two countries, with Sweden potentially exhibiting a higher frequency due to its progressive gender equality landscape. However, it anticipates a dominance of neoliberal feminism across both nations' musical output, reflecting universal trends in the capitalist world. Moreover, it posits that while American artists may showcase a broader range of feminist perspectives and intersectional issues associated with postmodern feminism, both neoliberal and postmodern feminist ideologies are likely equally present in the works of artists from both countries. The conclusions drawn from the analysis indicate that the amount of feminist messages in the music of performers from both countries did not significantly differ, with universal themes prevailing. Neoliberal feminism emerged as the predominant type of feminism in their works, though manifestations of postmodern feminism were also evident, albeit with thematic differences reflecting each country's unique context. By undertaking this comparative analysis, the thesis aims to elucidate the complexities of the contemporary feminist movement, the influence of national contexts on artistic narratives, and the diverse efforts of musicians to engage with pressing societal issues through their art.
