Neonatal intensive care requires additional education, systemic upgrade and update of the health workers' proficiency, providing high-quality healthcare. In recent years in neonatal practices in Bulgaria, attempts are made to implement the Kangaroo Care Method. Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) has a number of advantages for both the mother and the child. The importance of the issue prompts research and exploration for successful implementation by creating a favourable environment for education and the parents' permanent consultation. All this inspires research and analyses of the educational prospects, the proficiency and the place of the modern midwife in the team for intensive neonatal care.
